Bid to smuggle cough syrup to Bangladesh: Man held in Kolkata

India’s Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested a suspected drug trafficker in Kolkata in connection with attempted smuggling of nearly 15,000 bottles of Codeine-based cough syrup to Bangladesh, NCB said in a statement.
Gautam Mondal was was arrested in Kolkata on November 13, it added.
Mondal, also wanted in connection with gold smuggling, is linked to three cases filed by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). He had been evading capture by frequently changing his locations.
Mondal has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and investigations are on with joint interrogation by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and the Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police, he added.
